Police Department

The mission of the Watauga Police Department is to provide the highest quality police services while safeguarding individual liberties and building positive community relationships.

Distracted driving continues to be a significant factor in property damage, injury, and death on this state's roads and highways. Every day, nine Americans are killed from motor vehicle crashes that involved distracted driving, such as using a cell phone or texting. Forty percent of people between 19 and 39 years of age admit to texting while driving, and ten percent of them say they do it regularly. Text messaging while driving creates a crash risk 23 times higher than driving while not distracted. Studies show that a driver's reaction time doubles when a driver is distracted by sending or reading a text message. What's more, drivers who text take their eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds within a six second interval. This equates to traveling the length of a football field at 55 miles per hour without looking.

As of, September 1, 2017 texting while driving has become illegal state wide.

Arrive alive, don't text and drive.

The Watauga Police Department or individuals that work for the department are not allowed to take explosives or any type of ammunition from citizens. The only scenario when the Police Department will accept ammunition is as evidence when related to a crime.

Citizens can dispose of unwanted ammunition at area gun ranges. Local gun ranges that accept ammunition:
       - Total Shooting Sports (7901 Boulevard 26 #200, North Richland Hills, Texas)
       - Quail Creek Shooting Range (13814 FM 1171, Northlake, Texas)
